Children with a handicap run extra risks in Africa. The health care in romote regions is bad. Because of taboos and superstition these children are at an even bigger risk to neglect and social exclusion. We take children with a physical handicap in our regular sponsor program and offer extra medical car and attention among which children with a cleft lip.
The CCA board
Last week, we had the pleasure to welcome a new member to our board. Willy Rietveld, we are grateful for your enthusiasm! Our third quarterly board meeting went well. We discussed our targets, fundraising and made plans for the years to come.
Prevention of teen pregnancies
Poverty, arranged marriages and teen pregnancies are the most important reasons for girls in Karamoja to leave school prematurely. Our sponsor program helps poor girls to go to school and to prevent arranged marriages. We do our utmost to prevent teen pregnancies. This week our local partner KAPDA in Kaabong:
What do our children take to school?
Our students always receive a metallic case, filled with learning materials, beddings and toiletries. The metallic case has a small padlock, to keep the students’ belongings safe. The distribution of items to the selected students is always a happy celebration!
UN visits Amudat
A United Nations delegation visited Amudat last week, as part of their tour through the Karamoja region. They visited several projects, had meetings with development partners and came to Kalas girls, a primary school and rescue centre for girls at risk of FGM and forced marriage.
