In Uganda, schools were almost completely closed from March 2020 to March 2021. Some classes were allowed to start slowly again in March 2021. On June 7th, all students would be back at school; but unfortunately… on June 6th, when all the students had just been gathered, they had to go home again. Very sad… The lockdown has increased poverty; the markets are closed and there is little economic activity. The second lockdown has hit hard.
Normally, during school holidays, CCA only offers extra emergency care to children with HIV / Aids (the medication really has to be taken with nutritious food) and children who are in foster care or shelters. However, we notice that it is very important right now to encourage and support the sponsored students. Students in Kaabong received emergency kits filled with:
- Cooking oil
- Maize flour
- Sanitary pads
- Notebooks and practice stencils with homework assignments
This emergency support was made possible through the support of stichting Overleven te Roden and concerned entrepreneurs from the Roden / Assen area of the Netherlands.
