In memoriam of Dorian Cosijnse: One year later

26 March 2023

Now a year ago, Dorian Cosijnse (Director Child Care Africa) has lost her life in a car accident in Karamoja, Uganda (that was on March 26, 2022).

She was the inspiring figurehead of Child Care Africa. Full of love and tirelessness, she worked for the many vulnerable children in Karamoja. She passed away far too young, but she left a clear and valuable legacy to everyone.

Dorian proved that the “drop in the ocean” makes a lot of sense for any helpless child. She changed the world “child after child”. To this day, Dorian lives on in the hearts of children she helped with nutrition, medicine, surgery or a place in school. An indelible sign of her concern for the poorest of the poor.  We are still grateful to her for that.

For the past 10 days, we have been in Karamoja with Dorian’s parents and sister to visit places which were important to her and meet people who knew her. The family was able to hear the stories about her firsthand. This was both painful because of the irreparable loss and comforting because of the great gratitude for her visible legacy.

In the CCA board, the shock of a year ago is over, but we miss Dorian very much. At first, the grief was too great to go on right away, but we knew we owed this to Dorian and to our mission. In the meantime, the CCA organization is fully back to strength and we can take steps again. And we will, because there is so much good work to do.
