Can you introduce yourself?
My name is Suzanne Brouwer. I was born in 1987 in Den Helder as the fifth born in our family. My partner Mathieu and I have a young daughter named Nola, born in 2018. Witnessing how she is learning and growing brings me great happiness. It is beautiful to see her wonder and to help her explore the world. I moved from Den Helder to Delft to study civil engineering. I love Delft and the city’s history and culture. I currently work in Gouda as the education coordinator in a company training people in the housing sector in the Netherlands. Outside of work, I love to sing in the choir, to spend time in nature and to travel and explore the world. I have visited Africa several times for holidays.

Why did you become a board member for CCA?
I travelled to south-Africa, Namibia, Madagascar and Uganda for holidays, and fell in love with Africa. Its nature, culture, people and music. During these holidays, I always meet beautiful people, but I also see poverty. Although we try to help the local communities, orphanages and development projects, it always feels like it isn’t enough! In Uganda, I met Dorian Cosijnse and I saw the good work she did with Hope for the Children (our local partner in Amudat). They support vulnerable children to complete their education, so that they can find a job and help their community to develop. I am convinced that this project – initiated by the community itself – is going to make a long-term difference. I am glad to contribute to that goal.
Why is the work of CCA important?
Children are vulnerable and deserve an opportunity to develop themselves. Education helps to improve their lives and the lives of their loved-ones. It offers them an opportunity out of poverty, child marriage and female genital mutilation. We are a small organization and we know the children, their parents and their teachers. This close relationship helps us to support where necessary. Children and parents are given all the support they need to enable them to dream about the future. We help them to make their dreams come true.
What do you want to tell the children in Africa?
Dare to dream, believe in yourself and work hard to make your dreams come true.
What do you want to say to donors?
Your contribution will change a child’s future. The child may become a doctor or teacher, and can change the lives of many others in the community!
